The association is focused on providing opportunities for our teenagers to connect. Gabby Malpas is a Sydney based artist who has and continues to generously give her time to facilitate art workshops for the tweens and teens. Gabby’s involvement in this initiate is particularly important as Gabby has personal insight into trans-racial adoption http://gabbymalpas.com/
In July 2017 the association organised a visit from Cherry Yan. Cherry has established ‘I am China Adoptee’ and describes her website as a national and international online adoption club http://www.menghuimenghui.com/
Cherry is passionate about sharing her knowledge of Chinese culture through workshops. We were so pleased Cherry could visit Australia and share her knowledge of Chinese culture with FCC-A families. We look forward to her returning in the future.
Since 2009, FCC-Australia has organised heritage tours to China for its member families. The itineraries are designed specifically for FCC-Australia and combine well-known sights and some off the beaten track sights and activities not usually found in Western-organised tours. The tours are carefully designed to create a balance between organised sightseeing and down-time for you to enjoy at your leisure. Our tours offer the unique opportunity to travel to China with other Australian adoptive families. This creates a unique and memorable experience for all members of the family – the kids and teenagers really enjoy their time with each other, as do the parents, creating new friendships and rekindling existing ones – transit become fun. Although the FCC-Australia China Heritage tours are open to non-members, our members receive special reduced pricing. The next FCC-Australia China Heritage tour will take place in 2019.
What is a Ju Hui?
The association organises a national biannual gathering called the Ju Hui, for pre and post adoption families. This gathering is held in a different place in Australia each time.
FCCA Ju Hui 2018 – Melbourne, CBD
Our 2018 Ju Hui will be held in the spring school holidays and there’s something for everyone!
It will be a great urban adventure, alongside time to think about current adoption issues and time to catch up with old friends and to form new friendships.
This year’s Ju Hui will be based at City CYC Melbourne. It is a beautiful heritage-listed building in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD (corner of Collins and King Streets). We’ve chosen it not just because of its central location but also for flexibility of accommodation – there will be family rooms, parent rooms, kid rooms and teenager retreats – whatever you request – we can organise!
Activities on offer during the Ju Hui include:
Look forward to seeing you at FCC-Australia Ju Hui 2018 – Urban Adventure
FCCA Ju Hui 2016 – Sydney, Collaroy Plateau
Ju Hui 2016 was held over a weekend in the spring school holidays at the Collaroy Centre, Sydney. The Collaroy Centre is approximately 24 km from Sydney City and close to Collaroy Beach.
The Centre was a great venue. It is mid-way between Manly and Palm Beach and is set on 10ha of natural bush land with breathtaking views, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
The centre was chosen as it enabled FCC-A to have a camp with ‘something for everyone’ offering affordable onsite accommodation in cabins and hotel rooms and on-site catering. Attendees were able to join in organised activities, run by the Centre, or hang out at Collaroy beach, Narrabeen Lakes or nearby Manly.
Some of the activities organized for the younger children included calligraphy and kite-flying. Here is a brief ‘interview’ with two of the children that attended the 2016 Ju Hui. The children were six years old at the camp and this was their first Ju Hui. Here are their thoughts…
